In April, gardens and terraces come alive with colour thanks to spring blooms, which can be further enhanced through carefully chosen combinations of different species or varieties, based on an initial plan that takes into account factors such as height, growth habit and flower colour.

Compact and harmonious ornamental arrangements can also be created by combining blooms of different heights to produce perspectives of great scenic value. Colour combinations may feature shades of the same hue or an alternation of colours, choosing from the various available varieties to create designs or patterns according to personal taste.

When transplanting, remember to maintain a suitable planting spacing to achieve a well-proportioned overall result. Some examples of elegant mixed compositions in April, in beds or pots: the bright colours of the first tulips to bloom can be enhanced with daffodils, muscari (Grape hyacinth) and primroses or with perennial herbaceous plants such as Aquilegia spp, Aurinia saxatilis, Bellis perennis, Dicentra spectabilis, Erysimum hybridum, Iberis sempervirens, Myosotis sylvatica and Phlox subulata.

In flowerbeds in partial shade, we can achieve elegant results by planting herbaceous plants such as Bergenia cordifolia, Convallaria majalis, Hosta hybrida, ferns and ornamental grasses in fresh, moist soil .

In a charming and elegant garden, the habit of Malus floribunda ‘Pendula’ is particularly striking; in spring, before the leaves appear, its drooping branches are entirely covered with sweet-scented flowers, which can be further enhanced by creating a visual perspective using tulips or violas at the base of the plant.
