Fruit plants
Fruit plants are trees, shrubs, canes and climbers grown mainly for their edible fruit, which sets them apart from ornamental plants and from vegetables, which are usually annual or short-lived crops. Most are perennial and woody, so they stay in the same place for many years and need a sunny, sheltered spot with suitable soil. They are cultivated in gardens and orchards, while compact or dwarf forms also crop well in large pots on a patio or balcony. Some need a second plant nearby for pollination, and regular pruning, feeding and watering help to keep growth balanced and harvests reliable from season to season.
